• What does “custom made” mean?

  Windows, doors and other openings all share one trait: differences. Sizes, shapes and orientation differ. This is why shutters are custom made for each project. This simply means that any shutters you order from us will be manufactured specifically to your needs and preferences.

• What are the different types of shutters I can choose from?

  Security Plus Shutters offer roller shutters, plantation shutters, blinds, security doors, grilles, gate openers, blinds, canvas awnings, folding arm awnings and much more. Check out our Product Categories page here for more information on our products.

• What is the difference between blade sizes?

  Blade sizes are mostly defined by your preference. You may have need of more ventilation or light, or simply like the look of a particular blade size. Chat with one of our representatives to learn which is more appropriate for your home or business. Call us at 1300 883 933.

• I am renovating/building a new home, when should I call Security Plus Shutters?

  Custom made shutters usually take 4-8 weeks to manufacture. If you are just building/renovating your home, get a quote as soon as possible to include the cost in your plans.

• For best insulation, should Security Plus Shutters be inside or outside the home?

  The location of your shutters is irrelevant to insulation. What is relevant is the installation of your shutters. If your shutters aren’t fitted correctly, chances are that insulation will not be great. Shutters need to be snugly fitted into the opening, making sure that there is no space between windows and its coverings.

• Do Security Plus Shutters affect my view outdoors?

  No. Shutters do not entirely cover the view. You simply adjust the shutter to what opening percentage you like. In some cases, shutters can actually lead the eyes towards the outside.

• How often do they need to be sealed or painted?

  This depends on whether you have interior or exterior shutters. Exterior shutters will require more maintenance as they are exposed to sun, rain and wind. This can dull the paint on your shutters over time.

• How are Security Plus Shutters cleaned?

  There are different ways of cleaning your shutters, depending on the type of material you have. If you have aluminium shutters, cleaning with warm water and soap is advised. If your shutters are made of timber, regular dusting is a must. Most shutters are treated with dust-repellent paint. This helps reduce dust and prolong the quality of your shutters.

We maintain a large inventory of materials and have an expert team that is equipped to make any repairs or conduct services if required. If you have any questions relating to the usage of your new product, our friendly team is always here to help answer them.

• What is the difference between PVC, basswood and paulownia?

  PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a specific material used for damper areas such as the kitchen, bathroom or laundry. This option should be chosen for these areas to ensure your shutters last and do not become warped or damaged by the wetter environment.
  Paulownia Plantation Shutters have a beautiful grain and are lightweight a lightweight timber. Paulownia is a very stable timber and is less prone to bow, warp or twist easily. Also known as the Empress Tree, it is one of the fastest growing trees in the world, growing to its full maturity in only 10 years.  When harvested, it is easy for the trees to regenerate from the stumps, making it easy to restore crops.
  Basswood comes from the Tilia family of wood and has a beautiful grain and texture to it. This can be enhanced by adding a stain finish or a polyurethane paint can be added as a finish, which makes the shutters scratch proof – perfect for the kids room or a window that gets opened and closed often.

• Are plantation shutters worth it?

  100% Yes! Plantation shutters are an invaluable addition to any space. Not only do they look fantastic, they are also excellent at filtering sunlight and are easy to adjust which gives you flexibility in how much light you need subject to panel manipulation.

• What colours do plantation shutters come in?

  Plantation Shutters come in a range of different shades of white along with black, red, mahogany etc. They can also be stained to preserve the wonderful natural grain of the timber.

• How long will my order take?

  Normally 6-8 weeks although during these uncertain times and with shipping, it is known to extend to up to 12 weeks.

• Can I see a sample?

  Yes – your sales consultant always carries samples with them, so you’ll be able to see all the colours and be able to use the samples to colour match perfectly.

• Are plantations shutters installed on the outside or inside?

  Plantation shutters are installed inside as they are made of timber that is easily ruined by rain. The PVC shutters, which are more durable in wet-areas of the home are  not strong enough to withstand outside elements and will not last. They are best suited and will thrive indoors only.

   

• How do I clean my Plantation Shutters

  The best tool to clean your Plantation Shutters is this duster designed to easily rid dust from your plantation shutters. You can purchase these from our showroom or request one before installation so our installer can bring it with them when they install your shutters. It is ideal to dust your plantation shutter regularly. If you don’t have this shutter duster, use a dry cloth to remove debris and if there’s still dust or marks, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe gently. Make sure to dry immediately with a clean dry cloth as leaving your shutters damp can ruin them. Especially if they are basswood or paulownia.

• How long does it take to get Security Plus Shutters installed?

  From the time of your consultation and final measure our lead times are subject to change – our sales consultants will be able to give you a more accurate time frame at the time of your consultation. The average time from time of deposit to installation is usually in the 4-6 week range, but this is subject to change based on demand.
